Lisieux began as Joeville, named for Joseph-Hermenegilde Préfontaine, one of the area's early homesteaders. A post office opened in the community in 1921 and served it until 1991.
In 1926 the community took the name it carries today, chosen to honour Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, who had recently been canonized.
Lisieux lies in the Rural Municipality of Willow Bunch No. 42. It was an organized hamlet for many years, and gave up that designation on December 31, 2017. It is now an unincorporated community.
